Providing Educational and Cross-Cultural Opportunities Between Japan and America Since 1920
NEWS & EVENTS

Dear Members and Friends of KCC-JEE
We are pleased to invite you to our 102nd Annual Meeting. Last year, due to continuing health concerns, we held our meeting virtually via zoom. While always preferring to be together in person, meeting with zoom allowed us to welcome friends and colleagues in Japan who otherwise could not have attended. With that success in mind, we look forward to holding this year’s annual meeting via zoom again, bringing together more of our members and friends from around the nation and Japan.
The focus for this year’s Annual Meeting is the Graduate Fellows Program, formed in 1996 to support qualified Ph.D. students to do research in Japan. The purpose was and continues to be investing in future American educators who go on to promote learning about Japan. The Graduate Fellows remind us of the value of research and the broad impact educators have by teaching students about the literature, history, arts, and culture of Japan.
The program will include an introduction and a short keynote from Prof. Masahiro Hamashita, who has welcomed our Fellows at Kobe College for many years. This will be followed by video presentations by our exceptionally accomplished Fellows describing their research and what the Fellowship has meant to their careers. A sample of their provocative research includes such topics as Japanese-Brazilian Literature, the Role of Rural Women in Japan, Japanese Buddhism, Japanese Language and Gender, and the work of Hirabayashi Taiko.
As required, we will report on our programs and announce the results of our Board elections. To accommodate the time difference with our friends and colleagues in Japan, this year’s annual meeting will be at 7:00 pm on Friday, September 16th, Central Daylight Time, and 9:00 am on Saturday, September 17th in Nishinomiya.
Please register HERE. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with the connection information of the Zoom meeting. If you need any support regarding the registration, please feel free to contact office@kccjee.org.
We look forward to being together with all of you to celebrate another year of friendship and collaboration between KC and KCC-JEE!

Open Letter to the KCC-JEE Community,
For over a century, Kobe College Corporation-Japan Education Exchange has been a partner with Kobe College in support of US/Japan educational programs. We are a truly bicultural organization. Therefore, it has been deeply disheartening and horrifying to witness the recent rise in hate crimes and overt discrimination against Asians in the US and elsewhere. We stand together with Asian-Americans who have suffered under this current wave of anti-Asian hate crimes, which is disgraceful and unacceptable. Our hearts go out to the victims of indiscriminate aggression and call on our community to speak out against anti-Asian acts and sentiments. We stand strong in our commitment to inspire positive relationships among Kobe College, Japan, and the US through nurturing mutual understanding and respect for one another.
