Important: Essay Contest Update ( February 1, 2021)
The KCC-JEE High School Essay Contest deadline has been extended to April 1, 2021. The winner, regardless of grade level, will travel to Japan in the summer of 2022 due to Covid 19. For this reason, we will also now accept essays from 15 year-olds assuming that they will take another year of Japanese language class during the 2021-2022 school year. The winner will be announced in May.

Kobe College Corporation-Japan Education Exchange is seeking high school students who will be at least 16 years of age by July 1, 2021 and have formally studied Japanese language for at least one year, to write an essay in English in 500 words or fewer responding to the prompt below:
After having to go through online classes, limited social activities, and being stuck at home, how about a month in Japan?
In 500 words or fewer, discuss your experiences during 2020-2021. What advantages did you discover through today’s advanced communication technologies that you may not have found otherwise? What would you expect to gain from a homestay and language class in Japan?
How to Enter the Contest
Submissions must be received before midnight on February 1, 2021. One winner will be selected by judges and contacted by telephone and announced on our website. In order for your entry to be submitted and reviewed by our judges, all entries must:
Include a completed application (with proper signatures), emailed directly to no later than 11:59 pm (CST) on Monday, February 1, 2021.
Entries must include a completed application and essay in order to be reviewed.
Winner must be able to obtain a passport and travel independently to Japan in the summer of 2021.
Contestants agree that KCC-JEE may publish their name and essay on our website.
One winner will be selected and prize includes roundtrip airfare to Japan, four weeks of Japanese language study at the Kyoto Japanese Language Institute, and room and board with a homestay family. There is no cash prize for this contest.
